SHADOW BOXES: ASSEMBLAGES FROM BISCUIT TINS AND SUBLIMATION PRINTED METAL.

This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced students (you just need to have good hand skills with using hand tools like pliers, etc.). Metal working techniques will be adapted to enable everyone to make their own 3 dimensional shadow boxes and assemblages.

The readymade form of the biscuit or tobacco tin is perfect to create a shadow box as the image printed on the front can be used to frame the tableau within it. This becomes your stage and you create the characters and scenes using images cut from flat sources such as other biscuit tins, books and ephemera. You will be taught very simple techniques to cut images from metal using a piercing saw and tin snips, and a variety of cold joining techniques to attach your images to the shadow box, including riveting and spacer riveting to create depth. Anna will also cover the technique of sublimation printing which will enable you to print images of your choice onto metal.
